Yantarny Krai. Governor of Kaliningrad Region, Georgy Boos, had a meeting with Marian Podziewski, Voivoda of Warmia-Mazury Voivodeship of Poland, on Friday, April 18. It is the first visit of Mr. Podziewski to Kaliningrad since he took office last autumn, and the first meeting at this high level between the two regions in three years. The parties emphasized the importance of good neighbourly relations and expressed readiness to extend cooperation and undertake steps aimed at bringing it to a new level. Governor Boos suggested discussing possible areas of cooperation at an extended meeting of Co-Chairmen of the Russian-Polish Council on Cooperation with participation of heads of the two regions. The parties agreed that the most promising joint project could be in the field of infrastructure (the most topical issue here – border-crossing points), shipbuilding, agriculture, energy sector, tourism. Governor Boos accepted invitation by Marian Podziewski to make a visit to Warmia-Mazury as well. For information: Warmia-Mazury has 200 km of mutual border with Kaliningrad region. The region is noted among other regions of Poland for well-developed agriculture as well as tourism and recreation infrastructure. Head (Marszalek) of Warmia-Mazury Voivodeship, Mr. Jacek Protas, is expected to visit Kaliningrad region in June, 2008. During the visit Plan of Cooperation for 2008-2010 between the two regions is envisaged to be signed. Days of Kaliningrad region in Olsztyn and Elblag are scheduled for September 2008.
