The EU positively treats the decision to put on hold the next raise of export duties on certain products of the timber industry for the period of nine to 12 months, he said.
This problem is important for the EU, because, due to higher duties, Swedish and Finnish enterprises would have found themselves in a very difficult situation, Franco said, adding that this move could even have caused the closure of several companies in the timber sector.
An increase of these duties also contradicts a treaty signed by Russia and the EU in April 2004, the head of the European Commission's Moscow office said.
