Kaliningrad is 12th in Forbes' list of Russian cities best for business

Forbes has published the new rating of the Russian cities best for business. According to the magazine, Kaliningrad is regaining positions lost during the crisis: in 2010 the city took the 12th place in the top 30, while in 2008 it was second, and in 2009 in the wake of the developing crisis it was left out of the list altogether.

Forbes also explained that the table in which Kaliningrad took the 12th place is based on interests of companies operating in consumer markets, and offers businesses from other industries to restructure the interactive table by any of the six groups of indicators taken into account in the ranking. According to these indicators our city holds the 7th position by the comfort of business operation (number of three stars hotels, travel times from Moscow, the level of catering), the 8th place in resilience to crisis (the dynamics of physical persons tax collection, dynamics of housing prices and officially registered unemployment, expansion of trade networks), the 11th in terms of "business climate" (small business development, "tolerance" of the authorities to outside investors, the cost and timing of establishment and registration of companies). Social characteristics of the city (population, crime rates, level of education) are estimated at the 16th place, the purchasing power (population income and prices of residential real estate) – the 18th, and by infrastructure (availability of the airport, the number of federal highways, the cost of connecting to the grid) Kaliningrad is only 25th in the ranking.

Note: Forbes has expanded its list of cities participating in the rating. Previously these were cities with the population of 500 thousand people, now 103 cities with the population of 150 thousand people or more were analysed by 18 indicators of socio-economic development. The list does not include Moscow, St. Petersburg, the cities of Moscow and Leningrad regions and the Northern Caucasus.
