This ambitious programme of actions was adopted last year by the Baltic Sea countries and the European Commission - all members of HELCOM - to drastically reduce pollution to the sea and restore its good ecological status by 2021.

According to Kaliningrad regional Election Committee, the application for registration of an initiative group of 20 people and implementation of a referendum will be considered on May 12. After its endorsement the Election Committee will send the whole package of documents to Kaliningrad Regonal Duma. If Duma approves the wording of the issue to be taken to the referendum, the initiative group will be registered by the Election Committee. After that, the initiative group will be required to collect signatures from 2 per cent of the total number of voters in the region within the next 45 days. Only after that the regional Duma will be able to set the date for the referendum. Read more in Russian…
